MY JOURNEY OF HOW I STARTED MY OWN TRAVEL CONSULTING BUSINESS

Around the middle of 2017 I felt impressed in my heart that the Holy Spirit was leading me into some type of entrepreneurship but wasn’t quite sure what area of business.  I looked at a few things with 2 of our daughters (Event Planning and Property Management) but didn’t pursue it in depth enough to start a business.  However, our 2 daughters and I had several successful events, and both of them are working together as property owners. 

As I kept asking and seeking the Lord about what specific business I should pursue, it was in November of this year (2017) that I received a text from my hair stylist who has her own successful travel business.  Kim’s text to me was sent because her business was offering a November/December special to anyone that was interested in starting their own travel business under her company and she wanted to know if I knew of anyone that would be interested and if so please share the text.  I thought about it for several days and honestly couldn’t think of anyone that I could recommend that would be interested.  Then the thought came to my mind which I believe was the Holy Spirit’s leading and I heard these words:  What about you?

From there I contacted my stylist to find out more about her business for myself.  After speaking to her and her Mentor, I began to do my own homework about the wide, vast and seemingly interesting industry.  As I researched my stylist’s company, I didn’t feel that was the right one for me and didn’t feel lead to join her team.  However, after continuing to do more research, I found that I could get my own travel consultant certification and start my own business. 

The exciting journey began in January 2018 after discussing it with my husband at the end of 2017.  The first thing I did was enroll in an online travel school; The International Association of Professions Career College (IAP College) and received my certification of completion as a Travel Consultant in April 2018.  This certification was the beginning of my training as a Travel Professional as I have much more ongoing training ahead of me.  As a matter of fact, being a travel professional is a changing and evolving industry that will require me to constantly be in a mode of education and learning.  I desire to be the best professional I can, not just for myself but for the wonderful clients that I serve. 

Today as I write this History, it is June 2018 and I have made great progress and to God be the Glory.  I have registered my business name; Mennie Destinations “Helping To Bring Your Travel Dreams To Life”, applied and received my home occupancy permit and opened my business account.  In addition, I hired a graphic designer to create my logo and stationery.  The last major piece of getting my travel business up and running is to sign on with a great Host Travel Agency and as of August 4th, 2018 I was able to do that.  So far, I am happy with whom I believe the Lord has lead me to connect with and I am in the beginning stages of training with this company.  I hope to at least have my first client by the end of the year (2018) and Help then “Bring Their Travel Dreams to Life”.

As I have stepped out in Faith and followed what I believe the Holy Spirit has lead me to do, I will be successful in all my ways(Joshua 1:8); of course, with dedication and hard work on my part.  I have a heart of gratitude to the Lord for He is Good and Greatly to be Praised.  Because He (The Lord) has lead me to this business, He will see me through it(Philippians 4:13).  With every step, hurdle, challenge and success He will be with me(Hebrews 13:5).

My heart’s desire is to please my Heavenly Father, help people understand the importance of travel and setting time and finances aside to do so.  My business will operate with the upmost integrity, professionalism, and excellent customer service.  All of this will be done to glorify my wonderful Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ the son of the Living God.  Thanks for taking the time to read my humble beginnings as a Travel Professional.

MENNIE'S BIO

Mennie Morrison is a wife, mother, mentor and professional.  She is married to Dr. Joseph Morrison, President/CEO of Blessed To Be A Blessing Outreach Ministries, Inc.  She co-labors with him in the ministry and serves as the Administrator.  Together their blended family consist of 6 beautiful children and 10 precious grandchildren along with a God child.  Mennie has always had a heart and passion for God and the things of God and because of that, she is very people oriented and pays close attention to detail. She is very organized with many years of Event Planning experience. 

Her background includes training and certification in Fashion Merchandising.  Mennie’s additional training has afforded her to work in banking, customer service and retail.  She has also worked in a major non-profit Christian organization where the mission is to bring the love of God through the Gospel to the Jewish People (God’s Chosen People).  Currently, she is employed with another national and international non-profit organization; there, she serves under the Administration Division.  Mennie is very dedicated and strives to do her very best in all she steps forward to do.  Her heart of care and compassion is evident in all she does and because of that, brings great value to her business.
